Retail Reboot: How to Webinar 8 - Restructuring tools for retailers in company law

Updated: Jun 7, 2020

Critical business restructuring considerations for improving performance and weathering the storm

Massey University, in conjunction with a range of industry partners including RetailX and Retail NZ, is here to help provide some guidance and reassurance as we pivot to the new normal.

The impact from every level of COVID has continued to have repercussions throughout the business and retail sector. Not only do we need to make sure we weather the storm, but we need to emerge stronger and in the best position to perform. This webinar will help retailers navigate business restructuring they may not have considered plus, changes to the law which have emerged as a result of the crisis. Find out from our experts how you can navigate the best way forward for your business.

CONOR McELHINNEY – Partner, McGrathNicol is a restructuring and advisory expert who helps companies through periods of change and to optimise their performance. Most often that change is brought about by financial distress or a transaction, and more recently by Covid-19. Conor has led many of New Zealand’s largest retail insolvencies, including Pumpkin Patch, Top Shop, Ziera Shoes, Wild Pair, Valleygirl and many others. He has also assisted many more retailers to restructure their businesses, improving performance to preserve iconic Kiwi brands. Conor’s passion for retail developed during his five-year stint in London during the GFC, where he worked with many retailers, including coordinating the restructuring of Thomas Cook Plc, Europe’s second-largest travel operator with a turnover of £9bn and 35,000 employees.

STEPHEN LOWE – Partner, Wynn Williams is a commercial lawyer with 35 years’ legal experience. He advises all aspects of commercial law including corporate governance, contract law, trade practices, overseas investment, competition, securities and M&A.  He has helped clients navigate legal issues through the 1987 recession, the Asian Financial Crisis, the GFC, and subsequent periods of economic growth.
